I used to joke that my homeschool was a school of performing arts. That was my emphasis, if only internal. I taught the children to sing, tried to teach them piano, danced with them, made movies, etc.

This year, the oldest three went forth into the world and performed, and performed, and performed some more.

First up, Imani danced in the Cinderella ballet. I was so giddy, I giggled throughout the time she was on the stage. We bought the DVD. We watched it again. We loved it.

Then, Yanni and Xay did HONK! I was filled to bursting with pride and joy watching my babies sing and dance and, for the first time ever, say lines! We bought the DVD. We watched it again. We loved it.

Before HONK was over, Yanni auditioned for High School Musical 2. This time, she had the lead, was onstage for most of the production, had several costume changes, duets, and a couple solos. I thought I would die of pride. They couldn’t have a DVD. I saw it twice. I loved it both times.

Then, Xay did The Pirates of Penzance. He was a dancer in the show, and unlike in HONK, he had no lines, no solos. He was very expressive in face, though, and they worked very hard on their precision dance moves. By this point, I was feeling a little burnt out. I saw the show once and am thinking about getting the DVD. We loved it. Pirates was over on Saturday. I am filled to bursting with relief to be done with the musical season. . .

But, there’s always summer theatre. Beauty and the Beast is beckoning to Yanni, “Come, try out! There’s another lead in your future. . . ” So we’ll see. And we’ll let you know.
