Yesterday Imani threw up during dress rehearsal for The Nutcracker. They had two performances today. I was hoping that the virus would quickly run its course, as it had for Joy. It did! Imani was well enough today to perform.

I wasn’t completely out of the woods, flu-wise, though. At one point in the night, I was up holding Chanya, and I heard someone run to the bathroom to throw up. After I put Chanya in her crib, I crept back in the bed, having forgotten to check on whoever it was. I thought it was Imani, and I didn’t want to deal with the idea of her still being sick.

I got up at 5:30 to get ready to take Yanni to take her ACT test. I decided to take a shower in the kids’ bathroom, so I wouldn’t wake Chanya, who sleeps right outside our bathroom. As I was walking back to the bedroom to get dressed, I heard a voice in the darkness. “Mom!” It was a deep voice. Xay. He had been sick all night long. He asked me for help.

I went to Walgreens to get some medicine for Xay, Chanya with me; I woke her up trying to get dressed quickly. I later found out that Esteban was also sick, and for a minute we had a scare that Curtis was coming down with it, too. Imani and Joy were doing better, but neither had much appetite today. I took them to their matinée call, and they did the show without problem.

We had tickets for the whole family to see the evening show. The boys were down, so I had two extra tickets. I asked my friend Carol to come out and see the girls, and she did. My father was also in the audience, along with his girlfriend. I recognized some faces from lo so many years ago in the Symphony, and several daughters on stage. It was a beautiful, well-crafted ballet. Imani and Joy did a good job, and they had a ball. Chanya behaved herself during the performance, and she didn’t get sick!

I came home and crashed from relief. phew!
