If you have to go through a miscarriage, letting your body take care of it naturally could be a good way to go. Just pay attention to signs of infection: a fever, intense pain or sensitivity in the abdomen, and a foul odor. In hindsight, I’m glad I went this route. I didn’t like the description of that D&C, nor the possible side effects.
I never got an infection. My body just had a hard time letting go of the pregnancy hormones and what not. The miscarriage that lasted almost as long as a full-term pregnancy is finally over.
It’s actually been over since Thanksgiving, but now I have a clean bill of health from the midwife.
The day I got the leaves done was a tough one. I was out raking leaves, having labor type cramps. I had to stop, breathe through them, the whole deal. Finally I put the rake down and put my feet up. The contractions stopped, and the bleeding started.
This was the heavy bleeding my midwife had told me to expect. And after that, I felt normal. I flunked a pregnancy test somewhere around there, so I knew I was on the right path.
Now I know that everything has returned to normal, and this strange hormonal nightmare is over.
My midwife doesn’t need to see me for a year.
