This is a tale of a mother and son. The mother thinks she’s in pretty good shape; she just needs to keep pushing herself, and to work on her diet. The son knows there’s room for improvement, and he is driven to working hard.

They both do the situp, pushup, squat challenge once a week. The son actually does it thrice a week, while the mother almost injured herself trying to do it twice a week.

If they ride bikes together, she is panting and struggling to keep up; he wants to go farther faster, never tiring. When they arrive at their destination, she sits down, stretches, and rests for the return trip. He practices basketball for a few hours and then hops back on his bike raring to go.

They both went to the Y yesterday. She to try a class, he to practice basketball. The class, cardio tennis, was an hour long, full of middle aged people of all fitness levels. She was glad she’d been working on her pushups, but wondered where her cardio endurance had gone? Also? She REALLY didn’t feel like running.

Her face was bright red when she finished. She was hot, thirst, exhilarated, and had a headache which lingered throughout the day. He went to an extra open gym for basketball that afternoon and had a basketball game that night.

She feels sore and out of shape. He knows he’s in shape.

There’s a 28 year age difference between the two and many pounds difference. Not to mention 7 babies. . . so maybe the mother should cut herself a little slack?
