Tonight I went to Cardio tennis and saw some young girls there. They sounded familiar. I heard them telling each other ‘fail!’ after they got off a bad shot.
They sounded a lot like my daughter, and son too, if I’m being honest.
We shuffled partners, and I ended up partnering with one of the teenagers. She was a good tennis player. I asked her a dumb question. “Do you play tennis?” Yes, she said. She wanted to go out for the varsity team, but needed to up her stamina, so she joined Cardio tennis. Her friend’s father was already in the class.
I asked her what grade she was in, and she said 12th. I smiled, and enjoyed playing with her. It made me miss my big girl a tiny bit less.
We get to see her tomorrow. I can hardly wait!

You will likely cry for a while like my mom did. You will call her a lot and she will call you and facebook you and then after a while, you each will get your own routine and have a few less calls. You will learn the fine art of distance parenting a college student and you will be good at it. You will raise the rest of your awesome children. Also, your daughter will look at her college friends and their parents and realize how blessed she was to have you two as parents. Oh and she will come home and have great stories and she will be an even better sibling to her younger brothers and sisters and teach them what not to do. This will be immensely helpful for you.
So the answer is, you’ll do plenty and it will be hard for a while, but you will be fine and so will she. It will be a fantastic new chronicle in your relationship.
These are my predictions.
Loveyou.
